You wouldn’t know it by reading the news or scrolling through your timeline – but the future is bright.
There’s a massive wave of untapped talent that is being activated as you read this. This Fall, Code2College more than doubled the number of students admitted into the program from last year. That’s right, over 250 high school students (90% nonwhite, 65% low-income, 49% female and 45% First-Gen) in Central Texas have taken the first step towards launching their undergraduate and professional STEM careers by becoming Code2College participants.
Over the next eight months, volunteers from top companies like Spredfast, General Motors and WP Engine will work with them towards developing an in-demand, industry-relevant software engineering skill set, building their awareness of a variety of STEM industries including Semiconductors, Internet Services and Cybersecurity, enhancing their professionalism through targeted workshops around interview prep and resume-building and placing the top students into paid, summer internships at such reputable companies as Indeed, Kendra Scott, RetailMeNot, T3, Q2ebanking and many more.
We may be small, but we are mighty.
With a staff of two, we are leading the charge with over 100 volunteers at our back, supporting our work and students through twice-weekly after-school coding sessions, monthly professional skills workshops and boundless efforts to launch the next generation of diverse, homegrown technical talent in Central Texas.
We have no Development department. No Development Director. No major donors. But we have you.
YOU can help us continue to succeed and exceed expectations. Code2College is on a trajectory to change the lives of thousands of minority and low-income high school students, the lives of their family members and the complexion and composition of the Tech ecosystem.
Throughout the month of October, I’ll introduce you to our students, volunteers and supporters in an effort to a) raise acute awareness of our work and b) solicit your financial support.
We offer a tuition-free program to students who traditionally leave STEM fields in droves so that they can access these careers and truly diversify tech, and as we’re still in our infancy, this growth capital is critical.
Whether $250, $100 or even $5, we appreciate your support this month. You can donate at tinyurl.com/C2CMeetTheFuture
As I said, the future is bright. And during the 31 days of October, I’d like you to #MeetTheFuture through Code2College.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Matt Stephenson
