Code2College Partners with Google Austin to Host 1st Annual STEM-Themed Open Mic Night in Celebration of Black History Month

The Google-powered community-building event was curated as a unique way for the broader Code2College community to connect with one another and celebrate Black History Month.

AUSTIN, TX (February 23, 2023)  – Code2College (C2C) is pleased to announce that it will host our first annual STEM Open Mic Night with Google on Friday, February 24th, 2023 from 6p-9p at Google Austin (500 West 2nd Street Austin, TX 78701).

Funded by Google, the Code2College STEM Open Mic Night will feature six performances from the members of the Black Code2College community, including current students, program alumni, volunteers and staff. These performances include singing, original poetry readings, sharing personal stories, and presenting original digital artworks. Open Mic was curated by Code2College in order to support and celebrate the voices, talents and stories of the Black community in honor of Black History Month.

STEM Open Mic is but one of many community-building events curated by Code2College planned for 2023. About Code2College

The Code2College vision is to create a national network of diverse, homegrown technical talent, starting with the Central Texas region. Despite its regional reputation for innovation, there remains a shortage of skilled, local talent to fill a wide variety of technical roles to support the nearly 5,000 technology companies and research institutions in the Austin area.

Code2College provides students from historically underestimated backgrounds direct access to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fields, companies and professionals, the opportunity to develop coding skills and build a robust technical portfolio and prepare them for entry into and excellence in the technical workforce. Code2College is the leading workforce development organization placing high school students into paid, technical roles nationally.
