The Google-powered community-building event was curated as a unique way for the broader Code2College community to connect with one another and celebrate Black History Month.
AUSTIN, TX (February 23, 2023) – Code2College (C2C) is pleased to announce that it will host our first annual STEM Open Mic Night with Google on Friday, February 24th, 2023 from 6p-9p at Google Austin (500 West 2nd Street Austin, TX 78701).
Funded by Google, the Code2College STEM Open Mic Night will feature six performances from the members of the Black Code2College community, including current students, program alumni, volunteers and staff. These performances include singing, original poetry readings, sharing personal stories, and presenting original digital artworks. Open Mic was curated by Code2College in order to support and celebrate the voices, talents and stories of the Black community in honor of Black History Month.
Additional details:
- Nearly 50 attendees will be present, and RSVP numbers continue to grow.
- The Huston-Tillotson Jazz Collective will give an exclusive headline performance.
- The event will be hosted by longtime Code2College volunteers Hass and Carmen Johnson, engineers who work at LogicMonitor and WP Engine respectively.

- Although the Open Mic is STEM-themed, performances and pieces of all subject matter were welcomed and encouraged.
STEM Open Mic is but one of many community-building events curated by Code2College planned for 2023. The bulk of our 2023 events were made possible by the Bank of America Neighborhood Builders grant, a gift that includes $200,000 and leadership development for two senior staff members at Code2College.
